This Classic Margarita recipe treats you to a perfectly balanced cocktail that has all the right amounts of sweet, sour, and salty.
The Best Side for Tacos? A Margarita, of Course!
Taco Tuesday is a weekly celebration in our family. There was a time when I’d only add margaritas to the mix when at restaurants, but I’ve since smartened up. As it turns out, margaritas are incredibly easy to make at home! And they taste better. Who wants a cloyingly sweet margarita that’s 75% sugary filler? Not this gal!
If you enjoy margaritas and tequila is your jam, you also have to give my watermelon sangria with prosecco a go. It’s so refreshing!
What’s in This Classic Margarita Recipe?
Just five ingredients are necessary to make a wonderfully fresh and balanced margarita.
- Blanco tequila (Herradura Silver or Don Julio are my favorites)
- Orange liqueur (I use Triple Sec)
- Fresh lime juice
- Simple Syrup (see the Recipe Tips + Tricks below about making your own)
- Salt (I love using fine ground pink himalayan sea salt in this recipe)
How to Make the Best Classic Margarita
- Disperse the salt onto a small plate or shallow bowl.
- Slide a lime wedge over the rim of a glass to wet it, then set the lime wedge aside to use as a garnish.
- Press and roll the rim into the salt.
- Pop the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker along with some ice.
- Give it a good shake, poor it into the salt-rimmed glass, and garnish it with your lime wedge.
- Add an extra little sprinkle of pink himalayan salt into the drink, and serve!
Recipe Tips + Tricks
- If you’re making a large batch, a blender is better suited for mixing. Simply pop the tequila, orange liqueur, simple syrup, and lime juice into a stand blender along with a small handful of ice and blend until the ice is gone completely blended. We’re not looking for a frozen margarita here, so just a bit of ice will do.
- Juicing a lot of limes can be tedious. I typically opt for a jar of organic lime juice. Your ‘ritas will still come out tasting fresh. Avoid the plastic bottle variations as they taste less fresh and more like cleaner.
- You can easily make your own simple syrup by combining 1 cup of water with 1 cup of granulated sugar, and heating it over the stove—stirring often—until the sugar is fully dissolved. Cool the syrup before using it and store it in the fridge when not in use.
