Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s healthy—You’ll get the same flavors of Chinese takeout with way less sugar and sodium.
- It’s quick & easy—Prep is minimal and cooking time clocks in at 15 minutes.
- Leftovers are GOOD—This is a recipe that tastes just as good reheated, so you can enjoy it the next night for dinner too!
Ingredients
A full ingredient list with exact measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Beef—Flank steak, sirloin, or skirt steak work well for beef stir fry. You can often find pre-sliced steak strips for stir frying at your local grocery in the meat section.
Recipe Variations & Modifications
- Protein—This recipe would work well with chicken breast or boneless chicken thighs, shrimp, or even tofu! Just note that cooking times will vary with different proteins.
- Cooking oil—For more sesame flavor, use sesame oil instead of olive oil.
- White wine—You can swap this for mirin or, if you prefer cooking without alcohol, rice vinegar or beef broth.
- Slivered almonds—Toasted slivered almonds give this dish an awesome little crunch, but you can skip them or use roughly chopped or sliced almonds instead.
- Noodles—Ramen noodles are perfect for stir fries! But soba noodles are a fantastic alternative.
Pro Tip
If you have time, to ensure super tender beef just like you get from Chinese takeout, you can whisk together some cornstarch and soy sauce, then toss your beef strips into it and let it marinate for 15 minutes prior to cooking. (I suggest approx. 1 TBSP of cornstarch per 1 lb of beef and about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of soy sauce.)
How to Make Beef Stir Fry With Ramen Noodles
Step 1. Boil the Ramen noodles in a pot as per the package’s instructions. When done, strain them and set them aside. To toast the seeds and almonds, heat a dry skillet or wok over over medium-low heat. Add the sesame seeds and almonds and toast them, shaking the pan often to prevent burning. When lightly toasted and golden, remove the pan from the heat and transfer them to a small bowl; set aside.
Step 2. To cook the beef, add the oil to the same skillet or wok and heat it over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Add the beef strips and cook for about two minutes each side—just enough to brown the exteriors with a medium-rare center. Transfer the beef to a plate or bowl; set aside.
Step 3. To cook the veggies, add a bit more oil to the pan if necessary. Add the garlic, scallions, and bell peppers and cook until tender (about 3-5 mins.), stirring often. When tender, bring the beef back to the pan. Add the wine and soy sauce and let the liquid come to a simmer for about a minute to thicken. Stir every so often to prevent it from burning.
Step 4. Transfer the cooked Ramen noodles into the pan along with the toasted sesame seeds and the toasted almonds. Toss to coat and enjoy!
What to Serve With Beef Stir Fry
This dish already comes packed with noodles, vegetables, and protein. But there are a few side dishes I love adding to my plate with this, like seared baby bok choy or smashed cucumber salad. Another option would be kicking the meal off with a nice light bowl of miso soup!
Storage & Reheating
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
- To reheat, simply place the leftovers onto a microwave-safe plate and heat in increments of 25 seconds until heated through, or toss everything into a pan and heat on the stovetop over medium-low heat until heated through.
